Knitters, I confess. I was spoiled.
When I started knitting I lived close enough to my local yarn store that making a trip there was never a problem. There was a table where I could always find a place to sit, even if it was a little crowded, and a wonderful and helpful staff that offered technical and emotional support when needed. I knew that I could always find a place to knit and be with others knitters who "got" me, and that offered wonderful stash enhancement opportunities.
When we moved to New Paltz in 2006, I really missed having that kind of place. I did find a yarn store here with lovely hand-spun yarn, but I was sad that it didn't have a wide selection of yarn or needles and didn't have a place to sit. When that shop closed, I began to imagine having a shop of my own. A great place became available around this time, and I snapped it up -- even before I'd ordered the yarn or thought of a name for the shop!
After cleaning it out and putting on several fresh coats of paint, the store was ready to receive the yarn and the all important Knitting Couch. I had the yarn and the comfy seating so I was set. On November 10, 2007 I opened the door of Knit and Be Happy, your local yarn store in New Paltz. Inside you will find the ever growing selection of yarn, books and notions. We also offer classes for all ages and levels of knitters and crocheters. Please stop by. You will always find a comfy and welcoming spot to knit and be happy.
