• Notes

  Philosopher, politician and anti-fascist. Imprisoned on the island of Ventotene (off Naples) from January 1939 to October 1941 May 28th, 1944, just before the liberation of Rome, he was stopped by a band of fascist soldiers and was wounded. He died on May 30th in the San Giovanni Hospital under the false identity of Franco Tanzi. He received the gold medal for military valor postumously in 1946.
