Big Apple Divers

Big Apple Divers are running a club trip to Bonaire from November 12-19, 2022, staying at Captain Don's Habitat.  Those of you who know Bonaire don’t really need to hear more than that.   For those of you who haven’t been to Bonaire, you really should go.  It’s almost as good as the New Jersey shore!  And it’s significantly cheaper than many other destinations, especially considering the number of dives you can do in a week.

Bonaire has lovely warm water reefs, just like many Caribbean islands.  But Bonaire is unique in the sheer accessibility of the diving.  Any time of the day or night, you can do an easy swim to the reef off any of the dozens of shore entry points, including the one in front of our hotel.  For those who prefer boat diving, these rates also include 6 morning trips and 4 afternoon trips.

We will get rental trucks to let us do shore diving somewhere else than the hotel reef (and to explore the rest of the island).   I far prefer that, it’s nice to have complete control over your schedule. No departure times or tides to worry about and no seasickness.  Just find a yellow rock by the side of the road and walk into the water…

The resort is technical diving and CCR friendly.   O2, sorb and rebreather bottles are available for rent.  While there isn’t a huge amount of tech diving on Bonaire, there are a few deep wrecks, and of course it’s great to be able to spend a long time on the deeper recreational sites.  Also, doing your deco on a spectacular wall sure beats hanging off an anchor line.

The trip is initially limited to 10 divers, but if there were to be interest beyond that and availability (no guarantee, the hotel is booking up), we may be able to add spots.  After booking 9 people, the 10th spot is available for tax only ($140).  We will distribute the difference between $140 and the least expensive of the paid spots to everyone in the group.

There are direct flights from New York City for around $700 right now.

Please contact me if you want to go and are willing to pay a deposit. Since this is a Big Apple Divers trip, there are also the standard club diving requirements of dues being paid in full, as well as your 2022 waiver and a copy of your certification card on file.

Obviously, all of this is dependent on the COVID situation next November, which I have no way of predicting.  We can release the spaces up to 60 days prior to departure with no penalty.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or if you want a spot.

Best,

Mike Rothschild
